Why buy in Turkey?

Turkey has everything you need as a holiday destination - great beaches, a fabulous coastline, incredible archaeological sites, lovely villages and historic towns like Fethiye, Side and Antalya. There is every style of accomodation that will suit everybody's budget, from secluded villas to cool lock-up-and-go apartments
on or off resort developments.

Over 32,000 Brits have invested in Turkey according to the Land Registry and this figure is still rising. The attraction of no capital gains on property owned over 5 years and revamped mortgage rules have made buying in this historical country even more attractive especially as prices are still affordable in comparison to the rest of Europe. And it is as well to remember that although prices have dropped dramatically in the Euro-zone, this is not the case in Turkey where prices have steadily increased.

The perfect sea-view
The majority of foreigners buying property in Turkey are generally focused on holiday homes for the baby-boomers who have a view to retirement there in their later years. Turkey’s affordable prices and relaxed lifestyle mean that you can sell your property in the UK and upgrade to a warm destination and still have enough to live on.

Foreign investment is been actively encouraged, and in turn the Turkish Government is spending wisely, improving the countries infrastrucure with this new wealth.  Traveling frequently between Marmaris and Antalya, which once was a good 7 hour drive is now reduced to under 6 with the new road improvements.  And it is not just the trunk roads that have been improved - villages are now more get-at-able which in the future will encourage touring.

Airports and telecoms are also being constantly improved, Istanbul is now a favoured hub for onward travel down to Africa and the Middle East. Antalya has improved and enlarged its International terminal, Dalaman also has its own international terminal, and Alanya has a new airport which at present has summer flight flying to Scandinavia and northern Europe.

Because of the continual investment in regional airports coastal town and villages up to 2 hours away have benefited the most to accommodate the increase in tourism. These include Alanya, Side, Fethiye, Dalaman and Antalya on the Eastern side over to Bodrum and Kusadasi on the Aegean side - and everywhere else in between.

Gocek, the spring-board marina town and popular mooring point for yachts, with Kalkan and Kas both very popular with property buyers at the top end of the market. Other coastal towns that are attracting a lot of interest are Fethiye, Marmaris, Turunc and Side – lovely old towns all surrounded by fabulous mountains and views always nearby of a turquoise coloured sea.

Buying a property in Turkey is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make, so don't be rushed into it. Whilst perhaps Turkey is a familiar holiday destination, it is still a foreign country and there is much to learn before you buy or move over there.  The experience of  those who have already purchased or relocated confirms that it is vital to plan and educate on all aspects Turkish living.
